We now have a device called the QuantifEYE to assess risk factors for age-related macula degeneration (AMD) at an early age. Early risk assessment and prevention need to start with patients as early as 21 years and older. It is our goal to do everything possible to help you maintain healthy vision for years to come, and QuantifEYE is another way we can assist you in achieving that goal.
QuantifEye is a comprehensive risk assessment for AMD that includes an evaluation of potential health/history factors, measurement of your macular pigment optical density levels (MPOD), and your retinal exam. If your MPOD score is low we recommend nutritional supplementation to restore levels of zeaxanthin and lutein in your macula. This supplemental intervention can increase the pigment levels in your macula, thus lowering your risk for vision loss. With followup screenings we will be able to determine if nutritional intervention is resulting in increased macular pigment (higher MPOD score).
